BAGERHAT, Jan 11, 2026 (BSS) – The district law and order committee has decided to install CCTV cameras at high-risk polling stations, take strict measures to enforce the election code of conduct, increase surveillance, and set up 32 check posts across the district to maintain law and order during the upcoming national parliament elections.

“The law and order committee has given utmost importance to maintaining peace and security during the national elections, planned for February,” Deputy Commissioner Golam Md Baten said.

Presiding over the district law and order meeting at his conference room at 11 am on Saturday, he said the committee had also emphasized measures to enforce the election code of conduct and ensure strict vigilance at vulnerable polling stations.

Among those present were Additional Superintendent of Police Md Abu Russell, Jamaat Ameer Maulana Rezaul Karim, Election Officer Abu Ansar, Sadar Hospital Superintendent Dr Asim Samaddar, all UNOs of the district including Zahid Hasan, Sharmin Akhter Sumi, Sumona Irin, Md Ali Hasan, Md Sajjad Hossain, Shyamananda Kundo, representatives of intelligence agencies, coast guard, navy, army, electricity and roads and highways departments, public works department, journalists, and other government officials.

Deputy Commissioner Baten said, “Increasing surveillance through intelligence agencies and establishing 32 check posts at strategic points in the district is crucial to maintaining law and order during the election,” and instructed all departments to perform their duties in a coordinated manner.

The meeting also discussed suppressing piracy and robberies in the Sundarbans, strengthening anti-drug operations, controlling high-speed motorcycles, banning unauthorized rural vehicles such as Nasimon and Alamsadhu, and preventing electricity theft.

Special emphasis was placed on stopping overcharging of tourists on boats and trawlers in the Sundarbans, preventing juvenile gangs, and protecting migratory birds during the winter season, according to officials present at the meeting.
