KHULNA, Dec 17, 2025 (BSS) - Newly appointed Police Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Mohammad Zahidul Hasan has said candidates will be provided with security during the election if they apply for it.
“In the application, candidates must clearly specify the type of threat they are facing. The matter will then be investigated by the police intelligence unit, CTSB. If the investigation confirms the threat, necessary security will be provided to the candidate concerned,” he said.
He made the remarks during an introductory and exchange-of-views meeting with journalists at the press conference room of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) this afternoon.
Speaking about the election, he said in a previous election in Bangladesh, around 1.75 million members of law enforcement agencies were deployed. In the most recent election, the number of police personnel was around 150,000, while the other election related duties were carried out by the Army, Navy, Ansar, Coast Guard, RAB, and BGB, he said.
“Insha’Allah, no one has the capacity to sabotage the election. At least in my metropolitan area, I do not see anything like that,” he added.
He said that the government has taken unprecedented initiatives to provide special training to law enforcement agencies for the election.
On Wednesday morning, a three-day training programme for police engaged in election duties was inaugurated in Khulna. The training includes the use of body-worn cameras, techniques to stop or control voting in any situation, and various other aspects.
Specific guidelines are being followed for this training, and the trainers are trained by Police Headquarters.
In response to a question about the law and order situation in Khulna, the Police Commissioner said that he has recently joined.
However, he has already learned that three criminal groups are active in the city, and work has begun to address the issue.
Regarding digital crime, he said that police are actively working to catch criminals using information technology.
“Criminals have also become more technologically advanced and are using encrypted platforms such as WhatsApp instead of regular phone calls, which poses a challenge for law enforcement. Despite this, police efforts remain active,” he added.
Regarding the recent murder incident on the court premises, he said that important information has been obtained about it
However, details cannot be disclosed at this moment in the interest of the investigation. Visible progress will be shared with the media in due course, he said.
