BARISHAL, Dec 16, 2025 (BSS) - On the occasion of Great Victory Day, the district administration honored 70 freedom fighters at a ceremony held at the District Shilpakala Academy auditorium today. 

Divisional Commissioner Md. Mahfuzur Rahman attended the event as the chief guest at noon.

In his speech, the Divisional Commissioner highlighted the significance of the Liberation War, calling it an "inevitable reality" that freed the nation from economic discrimination and oppression. 

He praised the bravery and patriotism of the freedom fighters who secured an independent state for the Bengali nation and urged the younger generation to draw inspiration from their spirit to build a society free from discrimination.

Deputy Commissioner Md. Khairul Alam Sumon presided over the event. Range DIG Md. Manjur Morshed Alam, Police Commissioner Md. Shafiqul Islam, Superintendent of Police Farzana Islam, and freedom fighters Nurul Alam Farid and Ebaidul Haque Chan addressed, among others.

During the event, freedom fighters were presented with honorariums and cash assistance in recognition of their contributions to the nation.
