KHULNA, Dec 10, 2025 (BSS) - A total of 105 community water points and a new water supply network were launched on Tuesday at the Greenland slum in Ward No. 21 of Khulna City, ensuring safe drinking water for low-income residents.

Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Mokhatar Ahmed inaugurated the facilities in the afternoon as the chief guest.

Additional Divisional Commissioner and Managing Director of Khulna WASA Abu Sayed Md Monzur Alam, Deputy Managing Director Jhumur Bala, WASA Board Member Sheikh Didarul Alam, Executive Engineer Md Rezaul Islam, Acting Ward Councillor Md Imran Hossain and WASA Assistant Engineers Rafiqul Alam Sardar, Md Abdur Razzak and Ibrahim Khalil were present, among others.

Khulna WASA took up the initiative to expand safe water access for low-income families who had long depended on saline shallow tube-well water, leaving them vulnerable to waterborne diseases. Women in the area also had to walk long distances daily to collect potable water.

To resolve the prolonged crisis, Khulna WASA, local representatives, NGOs and international partners implemented a Water Operators Partnership (WOP) project.

The Tk 1.43 crore project was financed jointly, with Khulna WASA providing 30 percent from its own funds and Water Operators Partnership Netherlands contributing the remaining 70 percent.

The initiative was carried out by VEI Consulting (Netherlands), Khulna WASA and local NGO Nabolok.
