DHAKA, June 2, 2026 (BSS) – China today congratulated Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman on his election as President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), describing it as a reflection of the international community’s confidence in Bangladesh.

In a congratulatory message, the Chinese side conveyed its warm felicitations to Dr. Khalilur Rahman on his election to the prestigious UN post, according to a message issued by the Chinese embassy in Dhaka. 

China said the election reflects the confidence that the international community places in Bangladesh and its constructive role in advancing multilateralism and international cooperation.

Expressing its expectations from the President-elect, the Chinese side said it hopes Dr. Khalilur Rahman will unite all member states, uphold the principle of sovereign equality, defend international rule of law, promote dialogue and consultation, and strengthen the foundations of multilateralism.

The Chinese side also reaffirmed its readiness to support Dr. Khalilur Rahman in carrying out his responsibilities as President of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly.

Dr. Khalilur Rahman was elected President of the 81st Session of the 193-member UN General Assembly at a vote held at the UN Headquarters in New York earlier today.
