Wheelchairs, sewing machines distributed to disabled persons in Nilphamari

NILPHAMARI, Dec 3, 2025 (BSS) - Wheelchairs, sewing machines and tricycles were distributed among persons with disabilities in Nilphamari today, marking International and National Disability Day.

The distribution ceremony was held at the Zilla Parishad premises around 11.30 am. Earlier, a colourful procession started from the Deputy Commissioner's office at 10 am, parading through the main roads of the town before gathering at the Zilla Parishad auditorium for a discussion meeting. 

The district administration and the District Social Services Department jointly organized the day's programmes.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Nairuzzaman attended the meeting as chief guest while Deputy Director of District Social Services Md. Abu Bakkar Siddique presided over it.

Zila Parishad Chief Executive Officer Dipankar Roy and Additional Superintendent of Police Faruk Ahmed were present as special guests.

Speaking on the occasion, Assistant Engineer of the Zila Parishad Rezaul Karim said at the initiative of the Zila Parishad 96 sewing machines, 90 wheelchairs and 20 tricycles among persons with disabilities were distributed this year. 

He said the initiative aims to support distressed women and help create employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

Participants at the event emphasized ensuring equal rights, expediency and social inclusion for persons with disabilities in all sectors.
