JHENAIDAH, Nov 27, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his wife in Kaliganj upazila of the district in 2022. 

The court also fined convict Matiar Rahman, 50, son of late Najer Ali Mandal of Chadba village in Kaliganj upazila of the district, Taka 20,000, in default, to suffer another one-year in jail.

Judge of District and Sessions Judge's Court Md. Emran Hossain Chowdhury delivered the verdict on Wednesday afternoon, said Abdul Wahab, a bench assistant of the court on Thursday.

According to prosecution, during an argument late at night on August 10, 2022, Matiar Rahman hit his wife Parul's head with an iron bar. Parul died on the spot. 

Later, Isahak Mandal, father of the deceased, filed a murder case with Kaliganj Police Station. 

After long testimony and hearing, the judge handed down the verdict.
