Stocks extend gaining streak

DHAKA, Jan 13, 2026 (BSS) - Country's both the bourses-- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE)—today extended positive territory for a second consecutive session.

The DSEX Broad Index of DSE rose by 4.61 points, closing at 4946.67. Similarly, the DS-30 Index, which represents blue-chip companies, saw an increase of 1.37 points to reach 1899.13. However, the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) bucked the trend, falling by 2.20 points to settle at 99.70.

Investor activity remained moderate, with a total of 12,61,17,200  shares and mutual fund units changing hands. The total turnover for the day was recorded at Taka 386,34,37,898 . 

Out of the 390 companies and mutual funds that participated in today's trade, the market was almost evenly split. A total of 159 companies saw their prices increase, 156 saw a decline, and 75 remained unchanged.

The market turnover was largely driven by a few key players. 

Based on total value (Taka), the top 10 companies leading the trade were  Square Pharma, Orion Infusion, Dominage Steel, City Bank, Fine Foods, Crystal Insurance, ACI, Simtex, Taufika Foods and Asiatic Laboratories.

The day saw significant movement in several insurance and industrial stocks. The top 10 gainers were led by Paramount Insurance, followed by Coppertech Industries, CAPM IBBL Mutual Fund, and Asiatic Laboratories. Other notable performers in this category included BNICL, Sonar Bangla Insurance, Deshbandhu Polymer, Crystal Insurance, Standard Insurance, and BGIC.

Conversely, the top 10 losers were headed by Premier Leasing, followed by Beach Hatchery, BIFC, and Alif Industries. Other companies facing price declines included International Leasing, GQ Ball Pen, Al-Haj Textile, ICB 3rd NRB Mutual Fund, NCCBL Mutual Fund-1, and Zahin Spinning.
