Tigers looking to take confidence into Asia Cup and World Cup

SYLHET, July 16, 2023 (BSS)-After sealing their fourth successive T20 series victory in its history for the first time, Bangladesh looking to take the confidence into the Asia Cup and World Cup.

Although those two tournamenta will be a 50-over format, winning streak would give them the much-needed boost, according to Shakib Al Hasan.

The captain rather was pleased to see to how the youngsters propped up their game in the crucial moment. Shakib himself though was adjudged man of the match in the second T20 for his allround performance and also was adjudged man of the series, he believed the main takeaway of the series is the performance of the youngsters.

Towhid Hridoy played a crucial role with his 47 not out to help Bangladesh win the first T20 by two wickets, overcoming a dramatic last-over hat-trick of Karim Janat. Another youngster Shamim Patwari played two important knocks in two matches.

He scored 33 runs in the first T20 and shared a 43 ball-73 run partnership with Hridoy to bail Bangladesh out of danger before hitting the winning-boundary in the second game.

Bangladesh now beat UAE in 2022, then secured series against England, Ireland and Afghanistan at home to seal their fourth successive series victory in this format.

"Today was a day when me and the coaching staff wanted to give the younger guys a chance. But I had to come in. Most of these guys are playing ODI cricket from this squad.

They will look to take confidence into the Asia Cup and then the World Cup," Shakib said after the match.


"We lost a couple of wickets in the middle. The outfield made it hard for the spinners to bowl. We had the belief we will chase it down. In the day time, it was dry. There was seam and bounce for the seamers."

The match was reduced to 17 overs after rain ate up more than one hour.

 But Afghanistan could put up only 116-7 and Bangladesh reached the revised target of 119,losing four wickets and with five balls to spare.
Despite losing two wickets early, Afghanistan were on course of a rebuilding process before rain halted the game.

 After the game resumed, they lost wickets in cluster. Visiting captain Rashid Khan however refused to blame rain intervention for their first series defeat to Bangladesh in this format.
 
" We wouldn't want to make an excuse. Was a good wicket to bowl in the second innings. Part of the game if the rain comes in," he said.

"One should know the role and know the capacity. One should control their emotions a little as well. We lack a little in that aspect. We are trying to get it right ahead of the World Cup. Wanted to stay in the game till the last ball. Tried to put in 100 percent effort."
