Curtain falls of Sheikh Kamal Youth Games

DHAKA, March 4, 2023 (BSS) - The curtain of Sheikh Kamal 2nd Bangladesh Youth Games dropped today (Saturday) evening at Bangladesh Army Stadium with the supremacy of Chattogram division.

Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) president and Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed announced closing of final phase of the Games, participated by nearly four thousand athletes who created a festive atmosphere in the last seven days demonstrating their stunning sportsmanship in the country's sports arena.

The army chief enjoyed the eye catching gala closing ceremony that lasted nearly three hours as the chief guest.

During the time, BOA's Secretary General Syed Shahed Reza, BOA's vice president and Games media committee's chairman Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, other BOA's officials, senior officials of Bangladesh Army and various federation officials were also present during the closing ceremony.

Chattogram division emerged top in the games, participated by eight divisions across the country in 24 disciplines. Chattogram division topped the medal tally with 146 medals including 49 gold, 40 silver and 57 bronze. Dhaka division finished behind Chattogram division also with 146 medals including 46 gold, 39 silver and 61 bronze. Khulna division placed at third potion with 144 medals including 42 gold, 43 silver and 59 bronze.

The closing ceremony was divided into two parts. The first phase saw the arrival of chief guest Army Chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, athletics 100 and 800 meters events, Youth Games start-to-finish audio-visual display, presentation of crest to sponsors, speech by chief guest and closing announcement. The second phase was organized with 1 hour and 30 minutes of interesting cultural program. 

The gallery of the stadium was packed in the closing ceremony, which got a unique dimension in the presence of school-college students and people from various walks of life. Before the start of the athletics event on the last day, a few minutes of audio visuals were shown showing various developments in the country.

Some clips of the Youth Games were shown there. A different atmosphere was prevailed during the popular athletics event 100m sprint with the speed of the youngsters and the roar of the spectators, who came to enjoy the event.
 
In the closing ceremony, a short audiovisual was shown which highlighted the events of district, upazila, divisional level, torch lighting of the games.

Then honorary crests were handed over to the sponsors of the Youth Games.

 BOA's president and Army Chief SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, BOA's secretary general Syed Shahed Reza took a photo session with various patrons. After the crest distribution ceremony, the BOA's president handed over the trophies to the best Chattogram division and the second Dhaka division of the Youth Games along with the winners of the 800m and 100m sprint event.

Later, chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed delivered his speech after a photo session with BOA's senior officers and various federation officials. He also thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the successful completion of the Sheikh Kamal 2nd Bangladesh Youth Games.

The Army Chief also announced to distribute Taka ten lakh to the best 28 athletes of the Games. After the army chief's speech, the stadium lit up with fireworks. The audience framed this great moment on their cell phone. After that, the Games ended following cultural program.
