DHAKA, Feb 28, 2023 (BSS)-The final phase matches of Sheikh Kamal 2nd Bangladesh Youth Games continued on the third day (Tuesday) at separate venues in the city.
Hockey
Chattogram division reached the girls' hockey's final beating Rajshahi division by 4-3 goals in the penalty shootout in the first semi-final held at Maulana Bhasani National Stadium.
The match rolled in to a tie breaker after the keenly contested regulation time ended in a goalless draw.
The players of both teams scored three goals each in the first five shots of the shootout. Chattogram division however confirmed their victory in sudden death.
Khulna Division confirmed their spot of final defeating Dhaka division by 4-0 goals in the day's another semi-final held at the same venue.
Khulna's Eva slammed hat-trick with three goals while she was well supported by Sonia who netted the lone goal for Khulna.
Basketball
Khulna Division won their respective matches in the both boys' and girls' basketball while Rangpur and Chattogram were the other two teams which secured victory held at basketball court annex Bangladesh Army Stadium.
Khulna's boys crushed Mymensingh by 65-13, the girls of Khulna also made it a cake-walk, securing a 43-8 victory over Mymnsingh.
Chattogram boys however outplayed Rangpur by 78-25 but the girls of the port city lost the game to Rangpur girls by 40-12.
Squash
The squash discipline of the games has begun today (Tuesday) at Army Complex Squash Court in the city.
Bangladesh Army's Adjutant General Major General Md. Nazrul Islam inaugurated the competition as the chief guest. General Secretary of the federation Brigadier General GM Kamrul Islam (retd.) was present during the opening ceremony.
In the first match of the girls' division, Rangpur beat Chattogram division by 40-12 points while Khulna Division defeated Mymensingh Division by 43-8 points in the day's second match.
On the day one, Dhaka's Nabila, Mymensingh's Jui and Chattogram's Rakhia moved to the final round.
Weightlifting
Shammi Sultana, Md. Sohan and Jaydev Roy won gold after setting records in Weightlifting discipline.
In the girl's 55 kg weight category, Shammi Sultana won the gold by lifting a total of 112* kg in snatch 50 kg* and 62 kg* clean and jerk. Ananya Roy of Rangpur Division lifted a total of 92 kg in snatch 42 and clean and jerk 50 to win the silver medal while Mosa Aisha Khatun of Khulna Division lifted a total of 81 kg in snatch 36 and clean and jerk 40 to secure bronze medal.
In the boys' 61 kg weight category, Md. Sohan of Khulna division won the gold lifting a total of 187* kg in snatch 92* and clean and jerk 97* and Rangpur division's Jiban Chandra Roy bagged silver lifting a total of 177 kg with snatch 82 and clean and jerk 95 and Dhaka division's Anisur Rahman secured bronze lifting a total of 155 kg with Snatch 70 and Clean and Jerk 85.
In the 67 kg weight category, Jaydev Roy of Rangpur division won the gold by lifting 205* kg in snatch 90* and clean and jerk 115*, Md. Rahim of Rajshahi division lifted 183 kg in snatch 80 and clean and jerk 103 and got silver and Mashrafi Islam of Khulna division lifted 176 kg in snatch 83 and clean and jerk 93.
Shammi Sultana of Khulna division won the gold by lifting 112* kg in snatch 50* and clean and jerk 62* in girls category 55 kg weight category. Ananya Roy of Rangpur Division lifted 92 kg in Snatch 42 and Clean and Jerk 50 combined and won silver, Mosa Aisha Khatun of Khulna Division lifted a total of 81 kg in snatch 36 and Clean and Jerk 40.
Gymnastics
The gymnastics discipline of 2nd Sheikh Kamal Bangladesh Youth Games begin from tomorrow (Wednesday) at National Sports Council (NSC) gymnasium in the city.
Bangladesh Olympic Association's (BOA) Secretary General and Ambassador Syed Shaed Reza is expected to present in the opening ceremony of gymnastics event as the chief guest at 10 am.
Bangladesh Gymnastics Federation's (BGF) president and BOA's vice president Sheikh Bashir Ahmed Mamun will preside over the opening ceremony.
Officials of BOA, NSC, BGF and eight participating divisions of the Games are also present on the occasion.
Boys and girls athletes from Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi, Khulna, Rangpur, Barisal, Sylhet and Mymensingh will compete in the Games, organized by BOA.
The gymnastics event will conclude on March 3.
Archery
The archery discipline of the Games begins from tomorrow 9Wednesday) at Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master Stadium Archery Training Center.
Bangladesh Archery Federation's president Lieutenant General Md. Moinul Islam will inaugurate the event as the chief guest.
Thirty seven boys and 40 girls archers will compete in recurve division from eight divisional archery teams in this event. The game will be conducted at a distance of 60 meters in the recurve division.
The qualification round begins tomorrow (Wednesday). The elimination round and final round will be held later.
Football
Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions reached boys' football final eliminating their respective rivals in the semifinal match held at Paltan outer Stadium.
Rangpur Division confirmed the spot of final beating Khulna Division by 3-0 goals in the first semi-final with Alamgir scored two goals in 73rd and 90th minutes while Shahriar supported him with a lone goal in 18 minutes of the match.
In another semi-final, Rajshahi division ensured their place of final beating Sylhet division by 2-0 goals.
After the barren first half, Siddique broke the deadlock scoring the first goal in the 67th minute while Akash sealed the victory scoring the 2nd goal in 84 minute of the match.
The final match will be held on March 3 following the place-deciding match on March 2.
Handball
Rangpur division emerged girls' handball champions beating Dhaka division by 30-17 goals in the final held at Shaheed Captain M Mansur Ali Handball Stadium.
The winners' led the first half by 14-6 goals. Rajshahi division bagged bronze medal in this event.
Senior Secretary of Ministry of Home Affairs Public Security Department Aminul Islam Khan was present as the chief guest and distributed the prizes after the final.
Bangladesh Handball Federation's general secretary Asaduzzaman Kohinoor and other federation's officials were present on the occasion.
Taekwondo
Chattogram Division established its full dominance in Taekwondo discipline winning 10 gold medals out of possible 15. They also secured four silvers, 10 bronzes to end with highest 24 medals in this discipline.
Dhaka and Rajshahi acquired two gold medals apiece while Mymensigh obtained the rest of the gold. Dhaka secured 15 medals to finish with second in the discipline held at the gymnasium of NSC. Rajshahi is at third spot with seven medals. Khulna had one silver and three bronzes while Rnagpur finished with one silver and one bronze.
Judo
Six weight categories - U-45, -50, and -55 kg weight categories of boys' and U-52, -57 and +57 kg weight of girls' have been completed on the last day of judo competition.
In under-45 kg boys' catagory, Ibrahim Khalilullah of Chattogram division won gold, Shawkatul Islam of the same division bagged silver and Md. of Ramzan Ali of Dhaka and Md Arman of Rajshahi secured bronze medals.
Apruse Shai Marma of Chattogram division won the gold in under-50 kg. Yusuf Khan Fahim of Barisal won silver while Md Samiul Islam of Rajshahi and Khairul Islam of Khulna bagged the bronze medals.
In the U-55 kg of Ibrahim Swarna of Dhaka Usaching Marma Rupa of the same division bagged silver while Shipon Ali and Md. Russell Ghazi of Khulna secured bronze medals.
In the girls' U-52 category, Tashrafi Tabachum of Rangpur won gold, Najmin Khatun of the same division bagged silver and Mocha of Rajshahi Mahfuza Akhter Bilasi and Zakia Jannat of Barisal won bronze medals.
In the -57 kg weight category, Sumaiya Yasmin of Khulna won gold, Razia Akhtar of Chattogram bagged silver and Mocha Anika Akter of Rangpur and Kumkum Akhtar of Mymensingh secured bronze medals.
In +57 kg weight category, Fabiha Bushra of Khulna division won gold, Mohana Khatun of the same division bagged silver and Jamie Akhter of Rajshahi and Mehreen Khan of Dhaka secured bronze medals.
Kabaddi
Sylhet Division and Rajshahi division won their respective boys' matches held at National Kabaddi Stadium in the city.
In the girls' kabaddi, Khulna defeated Chattogram division by 35-09 points, Dhaka division beat Sylhet division by 36-20 points, Barisal division outclassed Mymensingh division by 32-22 points and Rangpur division overpowered Rajshahi division by 30-21 points.
Badminton
Shahed Ahmed of Syhet and S K Pritha of Khulna won the double crown each in badminton held at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmeed Indoor Stadium.
Shahed won the boys' singles title when he brilliantly fought back to beat Sheefat Ullah Galib of Chatogram 4-21, 23-21, 21-11.
Earlier, pairing with Masud Ahmed snatched a straight sets 21-15, 21-18 win over Sheefat Ullah Galib and Wahid Mirza of Chattogram in boys' doubles final.
On the other hand Pritha did not sweat much to outplay her team and doubles mate Mawethana Mathurja 21-16, 21-12 in the girls' singles final.
Pritha and Mathurja snatched an emphatic 21-15, 21-18 victory over Jesmin Akhtar Kona and Cynthia Khanam of Rajshahi in the girls' doubles final.
At last Sheefat managed to win a gold medal in the mixed doubles. The boy from Chattogram pairing with Aynul Tazreen defeated Sheikh Sagar and Tanzila Mahmud of Dhaka 21-15, 11- 21, 21-15.
Sheikh Ashiqur Rahman Miku, deputy secretary of BOA distributed prizes.
NSC's secretary Parimal Singha was also present at the time.
Chess
Dhaka division has maintained supremacy in chess discipline held at National Sports Council (NSC) chess room.
Dhaka division won gold medals in five out of five events in the boys' category. Silver winners Rajshahi Division won three matches and drew and lost one game each. Bronze winners' Sylhet division won two and drew and lost one game.
On the other hand, Dhaka division won gold by winning all the five matches in girls' category. Rajshahi division bagged silver while Chattogram division secured bronze medal.
BOA's secretary General Syed Shahed Reza distributed the prizes after the competition.
