Final phase matches of Sheikh Kamal Youth Games continue on day 2 

DHAKA, Feb 27, 2023 (BSS) - The final phase matches of various disciplines of Sheikh Kamal 2nd Bangladesh Youth Games continued on the second day (Tuesday) at separates venues in the city. 

Cycling 

Eight gold medals of cycling were decided on the second day. In the 1000m time trial (boys') event, Al Mamun of Khulna emerged top to clinch the coveted gold medal with a time of 1 minute 28.66 seconds. Alimul Islam of Chattogram bagged silver in 1 minute 32.28 seconds while Abdur Rahman Shakil of Khulna secured bronze with a timing of 1 minute 38.22 seconds.

In the 500m time trial (girls) event, Rahela Khatun of Chattagram division topped with 48.25 seconds, Zooey Akhtar of Dhaka division finished behind her with 52.96 seconds and Shimu Akhtar of Khulna division placed third with 57.49 seconds.

In the elimination race (youth) event, Al Mamun of Khulna, Mashrafe Hossain Maruf of Rangpur division, Pias of Khulna secured gold, silver and bronze respectively. 

In the elimination race (girls') event, Nasreen Sultana of Khulna, Sonia and Nupaiching of Chattogram won gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.

Md. Rashed Ali of Chattogram, Habib of Khulna and Mashrafe Hossain Maruf of Rangpur finished first, second and third position respectively in the 2000m scratch race (boys') event.

In the 1000m scratch race (girls') event, Jigha Akhtar of Chattogarm, Nasreen Sultana of Khulna and Rahela of Chattagram finished first, second and third respectively.

In the 2000m team time trial (boys') category, Khulna won the coveted gold medal with a timing of 3 minutes 26.83 seconds. Al Mamun, Riyad Hasan Piyas, Md. Abdur Rahman Shafin and Rezyan represented Khulna Division in this event. Rangpur won silver in this event with a timing of 3 minutes 29.70 seconds. Mashrafe Hossain Maruf, Limon Islam, Khalid Hasan Mahin and Sohanur Rahman represented Rangpur in this event. 

Chattogram Divisional Sports Organization got bronze in this event with a timing of 3 minutes 38.50 seconds. Siam Dastgir Rahit, Saiful Islam Sajib, Sumik Kanti Nath and Amit Das represented Chattogram division in this event.

In the 1000m team trial (girls') category, Chattogram Divisional Sports Association won the gold with a timing of 2 minutes 12.5 seconds. 
Nupaiching Magini, Rahela Khatun, Rhea Khatun Eva and Sonia Akhtar represented Chattogram division. Khulna Divisional Sports Association bagged silver with a timing of 2 minutes 22.3 seconds. Nachreen Sultana, Aishi Sutradhar, Ripan Akhter, Sadia Afrin Shimu represented Khulna in this event.

Dhaka Divisional Sports Association secured bronze with a timing of 2 minutes 39.2 seconds. Ayesha Siddika, Pushpita Rani, Jui Akhtar and Suma Rani represented Dhaka division in this event.
 
Taekwondo
The finals of several events were held on the second day of Taekwondo discipline at National Sports Council Gymnasium.

On the day, Khalid bin Aziz of the Chattogram Divisional Sports Association won the gold medal in the boys'-45 kg weight category and Gholam Rasool of Khulna bagged the silver medal while Wafiul Hasan of Chattogramg and Golam Kibria of Rajshahi jointly secured the bronze medal.

In the boys'-48 kg weight category, Mahmudun Nabi of Chattogram divisional sports organization won gold and Md Jihad of Dhaka got silver while Mostafiz Rahman Roni of Dhaka and Md Hasan Mahmud of Chattogram jointly got bronze medals.

In the boys'-51 kg weight category, Md. Mehdi Hasan of Chattogram Divisional Sports Association won gold and Md. Abdur Rahman bagged silver while Hriday Ahmed of Khulna and Shafaqat Islam Jadid of Dhaka jointly secured bronze medals.

Tahib Hossain Osman of Chattogram Divisional Sports Association won gold and Md Shubo Mia bagged silver while Imam Uddin of Dhaka and Rizan Hossain of Rangpur secured bronze medals in the boys' -55) kg weight category.

In the boys' +59 kg weight category, Ryan Alam Bhuiyan of Dhaka Divisional Sports Association won gold and Md. Sajib Miah of Rangpur bagged silver while Marzuk Rahman of Chattogram and Md. Tausif Islam of Mymensingh jointly secured the bronze medals.

Hockey

Rajshahi division beat Mymensingh Division by 4-2 goals to secure the last four spot in the day's first match held at Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium.

In the day's match, Mehdi, Taiyab, Jannatun Naeem and Al Nahian scored one goal apiece for Rajshahi Division while Tawhid and Sohrab Hossain Chotan netted one goal each for Mymensingh.

In the day's second match, Dhaka Division confirmed their place of semi-final thrashing Sylhet Division by 10-0 goals with Saddam Khan scored hat-trick with three goals while Rahmat Ali, Deen Islam, Ramim, Mostafizur, Pavel, Rakib and Tarek supported him with a lone goal each for Dhaka.

In the day's third match, Rangpur division earned a convincing 6-1 victory over Khulna Division to confirm the semifinals spot with Syed Mahirul Islam scored hat-trick with four goals for Rangpur while Mehedi Hasan Munna and Samiul Mehedi supported him with lone goal each. Habibur Rahman scored the consolation goal for Khulna.

In the fourth match of the day, Chattogram division dumped Barisal division by 15-0 goals to ensure their place of semifinals. Abdullah and Ismail of Chattogram scored hat-trick with three goals each, Tahsin and Ismiak scored two goals apiece while Shahidul, Nayan, Rifat, Fahim and Sajedul supported them with a lone goal each for Chattogram in the one-sided affairs.

Earlier, Bangladesh Olympic Association's (BOA) deputy secretary general and Sheikh Kamal 2nd Bangladesh Youth Games steering committee's member secretary Ashikur Rahman Miku formally inaugurated the hockey's event as the chief guest.

Boxing

The boxing disciplines of the Games inaugurated at Mohammad Ali Boxing Stadium in the city.

BOA's secretary general Syed Shahed Reza formally inaugurated the boxing event as the chief guest.

Speaking as the chief guest, the BOA secretary general said: "we won silver in boxing in the last SA Games and hope the sport will give us a gold medal in the future'.

The BOA secretary general informed that they have provided various facilities for the development of sportspersons. Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothistan, the country's only sports education institution, is also producing international quality athletes. 

Boxing Federation's vice president Nizamuddin Chowdhury Parvez and federation's general secretary Mazharul Islam Tuhin were also present during the opening ceremony.

This time 32 boxers in 6 weight categories in the boys' category and 36 boxers are participating in girls' category. On the first day, the preliminary bout games were held with Md. Rahim of Khulna division beat Md Miraz of Rangpur in the boys' category match while Ram Babu of Khulna defeated Joynul Abedin Asif of Chattogram. 

Basketball

Bangladesh Basketball Federation's (BBF) president Dr. Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin formally inaugurated the basketball meet at basketball court of Bangladesh Army Stadium in the city.

BOA's treasurer and BBF's general secretary AK Sarkar was also present during the opening ceremony.

On the first day of the meet, Chattogram and Khulna divisions won in the youth boys' category. Chattogram beat Rajshahi by 62-25 points in the first match after leading the first half by 29-18 points while Khulna defeated Dhaka by 68-24 points in the second match.

Meanwhile, Chattogram Division beat Rajshahi Division by 14-10 points in the first match of the girls' category.

Judo

Alif Ifti Bandhan of Dhaka division won the first gold in judo. He won gold in the 73 kg weight category in boys' category. Tanveer Hossain of Khulna division bagged silver while Mahfuz Hossain of Khulna and Shakib Chowdhury Soad of Dhaka jointly secured the bronze medal. Athletes from seven divisions are participating in the competition.

A total of 168 players will compete for supremacy in 14 weight classes in both youth boys' and girls' categories.

BOA's deputy secretary general and Bangladesh Volleyball Federation's general secretary Ashikur Rahman Miku inaugurated the judo event at Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium at city's Mirpur.

MB Saif, general secretary of Bangladesh Swimming Federation and Dhaka Divisional Sports Association was present during the opening ceremony.

Bangladesh Judo Federation's vice president and Additional DIG (Bangladesh Police) Syeda Jannat Ara presided over the opening ceremony.

Handball

In the girls' handball, Dhaka Division defeated Barisal by 33-3 goals, Khulna thrashed Sylhet by 25-1 goals, Rajshahi defeated Chattogram by 26-5 goals, Mymensingh blanked Sylhet Division by 6-0 goals, Dhaka edged past Rajshahi by 15-14 goals, Khulna overpowered Mymensingh by 13-3 goals, Chattogram defeated Mymensingh by 13-3 goals and Chattogram thrashed Barisal by 17-3 goals.

Volleyball

Khulna and Chattogram have won in both boys' and girls' category in volleyball disciplines.

Khulna division beat Barisal division by 2-0 sets in the youth boys' category held at Shaheed Noor Hossain National Volleyball Stadium in Paltan.

Chattogram division defeated Mymensingh division by 2-0 sets and Rajshahi division beat Rangpur division also by 2-0 sets.

In the youth girls' category, Khulna Division defeated Mymensingh Division by 2-0 sets. Chattogram division beat Barisal division by 2-0 set and Rangpur division defeated Rajshahi division by 2-0 set.

Football

Rajshahi and Chattogram have confirmed their last four spot of the girls' football. Earlier, Dhaka and Rangpur divisions confirmed the semi-final place.

Rajshahi division thrashed Barisal division by 10-0 goals held at BFF artificial turf in the city's Motijheel. Popy scored hat-trick with five goals for the winning team in 50th, 53rd, 67th, 74th and 77th minutes while Falguni scored hat-trick with three goals in the 12th, 15th and 50th minutes. 

Besides, Asma, Moumita and Sumi netted one goal each for the winners in the one-sided affairs.

In the day's other match held at the same venue, Chattogram Division beat Mymensingh Division by 4-1 goals in penalty shoot out after the regulkation time ended in a 2-2 draw.

The girls' football semifinal will be held tomorrow (Wednesday) at the same venue with Dhaka face Rajshahi in the first semi-final while Rangpur meet Chattogram in the second semis.

Kabaddi 

BOA's secretary general Syed Shahed Reza formally inaugurated the Kabaddi discipline at National kabaddi stadium in the city.

Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation's general secretary Habibur Rahman BPM (Bar) Games ceremonies sub committee's member secretary MB Saif were also present during the opening ceremony.

Badminton 

The badminton discipline youth boys' and girls' singles and doubles finals of the Games will be held tomorrow (Tuesday) at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium.

On way to the semifinal today (Monday), Sifat Ullah Ghalib of Chattagram beat Siam Sadman of Rajshahi by 2-0 sets, Sheikh Sagar of Dhaka beat Saikat Hasan of Khulna by 2-0 sets, Abdul Awal of Chattagram beat Md Ratan of Rajshahi by 2-1 set, Shahed Ahmed of Sylhet defeated Raju Ahmed of Barisal by 2-1 set points to reach the semi-finals.

In the girls' quarter-finals, Sheikh Pritha of Khulna beat Maisha Mumtaz of Mymensingh by 2-0 sets, Tanjila Mahmud of Dhaka beat Jitu of Rangpur by 2-0 sets, Cynthia Khanum of Rajshahi outclassed Ayanan of Chattogram by 2-0 sets and Mathurya Bishas of Khulna beat Asim Mithila of Sylhet by 2- set to confirmed their spot of semifinals.
