BHOLA, July 9, 2026 (BSS) - Water has started receding from the low-lying areas of Bhola, bringing relief to residents as the overall weather situation gradually returns to normal.
The coastal district had been experiencing adverse weather conditions due to a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal that formed a few days ago.
Although intermittent light to moderate rainfall had continued since Sunday (July 5), precipitation decreased significantly today. However, the sky remained overcast and the weather humid.
Meanwhile, Local Cautionary Signal No. 3 remains in force at the country's seaports, but the water level of the Meghna River in Bhola has returned to normal.

He said 53 millimetres of rainfall had been recorded in Bhola district until 6:00 am last Sunday.
Although weather conditions have improved, the sky remains cloudy and the situation is being monitored.

He said ferry and passenger launch services on the Bhola-Ilisha-Lakshmipur-Dhaka river route have also been partially restored to normal.
The adverse weather also affected the fisheries sector.
Bhola Deputy Commissioner Dr Shamim Rahman told the media that upazila executive officers had been instructed to closely monitor the overall disaster situation.
He said the district administration and the relevant departments are continuing to monitor the situation and that fresh cautionary instructions will be issued to river transport users and vessel operators if weather conditions deteriorate.
