TANGAIL, Sept 12, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku has called upon everyone to play an active role in destroying Aedes mosquito breeding grounds to prevent dengue.

He said this while inaugurating a cleanliness drive at the premises of Tangail Medical College Hospital here today.

The minister said the next three months will be an extremely risky and crucial period for the dengue situation.

Raising public awareness is essential during this period to prevent dengue, he said.

The minister said destroying Aedes mosquito breeding grounds is one of the most effective measures to prevent dengue.

"Water must not be allowed to accumulate on rooftops, in flower pots, discarded containers, coconut shells or anywhere else," he said.

He urged people to keep their homes, institutions and surrounding areas clean.

He said public awareness and cleanliness activities must be conducted simultaneously across the country to make the Prime Minister's initiative a success.

"If we ourselves perform our responsibilities from our respective positions alongside raising public awareness, it will be possible to control the spread of Aedes mosquitoes to a great extent," he said.

After inaugurating the cleanliness drive, Tuku personally cleaned garbage accumulated at various places on the premises of Tangail Medical College Hospital and General Hospital.

Deputy Commissioner Sharifa Haque, Police Superintendent Shamsul Alam Sarker, Civil Surgeon Dr Farazi Mohammad Mahbubul Alam Manju, Director of Tangail Medical College Hospital Md Abdul Quddus, Deputy Director of General Hospital Khandaker Sadikur Rahman, former Member Secretary of Tangail District BNP Mahmudul Haque Sanu, former Organising Secretary Shafiqul Rahman Khan Shafik and Tangail Sadar Upazila BNP Senior Joint Secretary Azim Uddin Biplob and activists of BNP and its affiliated organisations were present, among others.
