DHAKA, Sept 12, 2026 (BSS) - The National Legal Aid Services Organization
(NLASO) has realized Taka 405 crore 55 lakh 50 thousand 941 as compensation
for poor litigants through its legal aid services since 2009.
The information was disclosed in a report published on the NLASO website,
covering the period up to August 2026.
Initially, legal aid services were provided at the district level. The
programme was later expanded to the Supreme Court, Labour Legal Aid Cells in
Dhaka and Chattogram, and prisons across the country.
Of the total compensation realised for poor litigants through pre-and post-
case proceedings, Taka 398 crore 51 lakh 69 thousand 575 was recovered
through 64 district Legal Aid offices while Taka 7 crore 3 lakh 81 thousand
366 was recovered through the Labour Legal Aid Cells in Dhaka and Chattogram.
During the period, a total of 16 lakh 10 thousand 364 people benefited from
legal aid services provided at government expense under the NLASO.
At present, legal aid services are being provided through 64 district Legal
Aid offices, the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, Labour Legal Aid Cells in
Dhaka and Chattogram, and the National Legal Aid Helpline Call Centre.

The services are provided under the Legal Aid Services Act at government
expense to assist financially disadvantaged and distressed litigants.
The NLASO operates under the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law,
Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
