DHAKA, Sept 9, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 327 people were arrested in separate anti-crime drives conducted by different units and police stations of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) across the capital on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The arrests were made in Tejgaon, Mirpur, Motijheel, Jatrabari and Dakshinkhan areas in connection with various alleged criminal activities, said a police press release.

Police also recovered a foreign-made pistol, two rounds of live ammunition and a magazine in a separate operation in Dakshinkhan.

In the Tejgaon division, police arrested 110 people during special drives in crime-prone areas on Tuesday. 

Of them, 31 were arrested by Tejgaon Police Station, 6 by Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, 45 by Mohammadpur Police Station, 20 by Adabor Police Station, 3 by Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station and 5 by Hatirjheel Police Station.

Meanwhile, 139 people were arrested in the Mirpur division during similar drives. Police arrested 43 in Mirpur Police Station area, 14 in Shah Ali, 23 in Pallabi, 20 in Kafrul, 16 in Darus Salam, 15 in Rupnagar and 8 in Bhashantek.

In the Motijheel division, police arrested another 52 people from different crime-prone areas. 

The arrests included 5 from Motijheel Police Station, 16 from Paltan, 18 from Khilgaon, 3 from Shahjahanpur and 10 from Mugda.

Separately, 22 people were arrested during a special operation by Jatrabari Police Station on Tuesday. 

Police said the drive was conducted in several crime-prone areas under the police station.

In another significant operation, four alleged criminals, extortionists and drug traders were arrested in Dakshinkhan with a foreign-made pistol, two rounds of ammunition and a magazine.

Police said the four arrested are Saju Majumder, 28, Antar Rahman alias Anu, 22, Parvez, 22, and Babu alias Sentu, 25.

According to police, a group of criminals intercepted a person on Muktijoddha Road in the Azampur area of Dakshinkhan on September 4 and demanded extortion. 

When he refused to pay, they allegedly assaulted him and opened fire at him with an intention to kill before fleeing the scene.

Following a case filed over the incident, Dakshinkhan police examined CCTV footage and used technological assistance to identify the suspects. 

Saju was arrested from the Valuka area of Mymensingh, while Antar Rahman and Parvez were later arrested from Islampur in Jamalpur.

Based on information obtained from the arrested suspects, police conducted another operation in South Azampur at around 6:00am on Wednesday and arrested Babu alias Sentu. 

A foreign-made pistol, two live rounds and a magazine were recovered from his possession, police said.

A case under the Arms Act has been filed against the arrested suspects.
