DHAKA, Sept 3, 2026 (BSS) - Police has sought information from Interpol about the whereabouts of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed, following media reports that he travelled to Saint Lucia after being released from custody in Dubai.

“We have sought help from Interpol through an email on Wednesday, September 2, seeking information about Benazir Ahmed’s current location following a media report,” Additional Inspector General of Police (Crime and Operations) Khondoker Rafiqul Islam told BSS today over telephone.

Benazir, an accused in a case of crimes against humanity, reportedly travelled from Dubai to Saint Lucia on August 17.

A Dubai court earlier granted Benazir conditional bail on July 27 following hearings over extradition documents submitted by Bangladesh.

He was released on July 30 after completing legal procedures.

The government has meanwhile been pursuing efforts to repatriate Benazir to Bangladesh.
