KHULNA, Aug 29, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Vice Chairman and lawmaker Barkatullah Bulu today said the name 'Zia' is sacred and deeply connected with the destiny of the people of Bangladesh.
"Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman was the proclaimer of independence, and through his declaration the nation achieved an independent and sovereign Bangladesh," he said.
Bulu made the remarks as chief guest at the Khulna Divisional Conference of Zia Mancha at the auditorium of the Khulna Divisional Commissioner's Office this afternoon.
He said the 2024 mass uprising was the outcome of a prolonged struggle and described it as a continuation of political movements led by former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman.
He said Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia had never compromised with injustice and expressed hope that future leadership would also uphold their ideals.
Referring to Tarique Rahman, Bulu said he would not compromise with injustice, as he carried the political legacy of Ziaur Rahman.
The conference was inaugurated by Zia Mancha Central Committee General Secretary Md Foyez Ullah Iqbal and presided over by Saleh Ahmed Kanchan, vice-president of the organisation's central committee and head of its Khulna divisional team.
Zia Mancha leaders from the Khulna division addressed the conference and called for strengthening and reorganising the organisation at the district and metropolitan levels.
A large number of leaders, activists and supporters from different parts of the division attended the conference.
