MYMENSINGH, Aug 24, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 250 persons with disabilities in
Mymensingh have received "Subarna Cards" from the upazila administration,
enabling them to apply for a monthly government allowance of Taka 1,000 each.
The cards were distributed at Sadar Upazila Hallroom at 2pm today in a joint
initiative of the Department of Social Services and the upazila
administration.
Local lawmaker Abu Wahab Akand Wahid attended the programme as the chief
guest while Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Ariful Islam presided over
it.
Speaking at the event, Wahab Akand said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has
undertaken far-reaching initiatives for persons with disabilities. Under the
initiative, each eligible beneficiary will receive an annual allowance of
Taka 12,000, he said.
District Social Services Officer Md Raju Ahmed and Upazila Social Services
Officer Md Asaduzzaman, among others, also spoke at the programme.
The deadline for applications for disability allowances has been extended
until August 31, the UNO said.
Beneficiaries who have received Subarna Cards will receive a monthly
allowance of Taka 1,000 after completing the application process in
accordance with the rules.
