DHAKA, Aug 23, 2026 (BSS) — A group of Japanese teachers has completed an eight-day training programme in Bangladesh under the Japan International Cooperation Agency’s (JICA) “Overseas Training for Teachers” programme, gaining firsthand experience of the country’s education system, infrastructure development, public services and Japan’s cooperation in Bangladesh.
The teachers participated in the programme from August 5 to 13, visiting educational institutions, infrastructure facilities, industries and public service establishments in Dhaka and other areas, said a press release.
The JICA programme aims to deepen teachers’ understanding of international cooperation and enhance awareness of global issues among students in Japan.
The programme, which has been running for more than five decades, combines one to two weeks of overseas fieldwork with follow-up activities after participants return to Japan.
During their visit, the teachers observed different models of education in Bangladesh, visiting government, private and non-profit schools, the University of Dhaka, the Directorate of Primary Education, the Primary Teachers Training Institute and a KUMON centre.
They also visited educational institutions in both urban and rural areas, allowing them to gain a broader understanding of Bangladesh’s diverse education environment.
As part of the programme, the delegation visited a Japanese company at the Adamjee Export Processing Zone, where they learned about Japanese business activities and industrial development in Bangladesh.
They also visited major infrastructure and public service facilities, including the Dhaka MRT, public health facilities and a waste management facility, gaining insights into Bangladesh’s ongoing development and the role of international cooperation.
At the JICA Bangladesh Office, the teachers received an overview of JICA’s activities and cooperation in Bangladesh, helping them connect their field experiences with the broader context of Japan-Bangladesh relations.
The participants were particularly impressed by their interactions with Bangladeshi students, teachers, professionals and local communities.
“I will definitely pass on my experiences in Bangladesh to my students,” one participant said, highlighting the importance of sharing the experience with the next generation.
Another participant said, “I learned a lot throughout this whole training period. I would definitely like to come back to this country again.”
The visit also provided the teachers with an opportunity to experience the growing and multifaceted relationship between Japan and Bangladesh beyond traditional development cooperation, through direct engagement with the country’s education, infrastructure, industry and public services.
Following completion of the field training, the teachers have returned to Japan, where they are expected to incorporate their experiences into classroom lessons and teaching materials and share their learning with fellow teachers and students in their respective regions.
