DHAKA, Aug 18, 2026 (BSS) - The first meeting of the Research Committee formed under the Bangladesh Parliament Research Policy (Revised)-2026 was held today at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
Committee Chairman and MP Sayeed Al Noman presided over the meeting, according to a parliament secretariat press release here.
Committee members Parliament Secretariat Secretary Barrister Md Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, Director General A.N.M. Khalilur Rahman Khan, Director (Joint Secretary) Md Nazmun Haque, Deputy Secretary Md Faisal Morshed, Deputy Secretary Dr Md Ohiduzzaman, and Deputy Director Md Ali Akbar—attended the meeting.
At the outset, the committee chairman welcomed the participants and formally initiated the proceedings of the meeting. An initial discussion was then held on conducting research activities in line with the parliamentary research allocation and the provisions of the research policy.
The meeting discussed publishing notices in one Bangla and one English national daily inviting research proposals.
The committee also held a detailed discussion on identifying research topics and areas in line with the objectives and goals of the Bangladesh Parliament Research Policy (Revised)-2026, particularly on the activities of Parliament, the law-making process, parliamentary proceedings, and important contemporary national and international issues.
Following discussions, the committee recommended publishing notices in one Bangla and one English national daily inviting research proposals.
It also recommended giving priority to several areas while selecting research topics and evaluating proposals, including “Effective Parliamentary Committee System in Bangladesh Parliament: Current Status, International Experience, Challenges and a Reform Framework”; “Post-Legislative Scrutiny: Necessity and Framework for Bangladesh”; “Parliament-People Linkage: Current Status and Ways to Improve It”; and “Effectiveness of Implementation of the Recommendations of the Public Accounts Committee.”
Officials concerned of the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat were present at the meeting.
