DHAKA, March 28, 2026 (BSS) - Md Nurul Islam, chief whip of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS), has expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Professor Dilara Hafiz, spouse of JS Speaker Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikrom.

Dilara Hafiz passed away in Singapore today at the age of 78. 

She breathed her last at Singapore General Hospital at 11:29am [Bangladesh time] while undergoing treatment.

In a message of condolence, the Chief Whip expressed deep shock at the death of Dilara Hafiz and conveyed his deepest sympathy to the family members of the bereaved.

The body of Dilara Hafiz will be brought to Bangladesh tomorrow evening. Her first namaz-e-janaza will be held at the South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad (JS) at 11 am on March 30, followed by burial at Banani Military Graveyard after the second namaz-e-janaza at Dhaka Cantonment after Zuhr prayers.
