LALMONIRHAT, Mar 24, 2026 (BSS) - Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu today emphasized the need for coordinated industrialization in Lalmonirhat and Kurigram to bridge regional development gaps and generate mass employment.
"Industrialization is the only viable alternative for driving economic progress and job creation in the Lalmonirhat and Kurigram districts," he said while addressing a high-level discussion at the conference room of the Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner.
The session was presided over by Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner HM Rokibul Hyder.
In his address as the chief guest, Dulu urged all stakeholders to work in a coordinated manner to ensure successful implementation of government-led development initiatives in the region.
Special guest Dr Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance and Planning, highlighted the government's commitment to equality-based development.
He said the administration is prioritizing historically underdeveloped regions to transform challenges into sustainable economic opportunities.
Dr Titumir also confirmed that plans are underway to establish new factories based on local agricultural products, providing a strong economic foundation and revitalizing the regional economy.
During the meeting, participants noted that northern districts have long lagged in infrastructure and industrial growth, underlining the need for focused development efforts.
The high-level meeting was attended by Md Hassan Rajib Prodhan (MP, Lalmonirhat-1), Md Rokun Uddin Babul (MP, Lalmonirhat-2), Kurigram Deputy Commissioner Annapurna Debnath, Lalmonirhat Superintendent of Police Asaduzzaman, and Kurigram SP Khandakar Fazle Rabbi.
A wide range of local political leaders, business representatives, civil society members, senior government officials, and media personnel also participated.
