NIAMATPUR (Naogaon), March 16, 2026 (BSS) - Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu has said that there are numerous complaints among ordinary people regarding land-related matters.
To address these issues, the minister along with his ministry officials is working with integrity. Besides, steps are being taken to ensure that no irregularities or corruption occur in the Ministry of Land.
He also stated that action will be taken against those who were previously involved in corruption.
He made these remarks on Monday around 12:15 pm while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion meeting held after inaugurating the re-excavation work of the Bil Lata canal in Niamatpur Upazila of Naogaon District.
The Land Minister said that people have long expressed frustration and complaints due to various land-related problems. His goal is to resolve these issues and work for the people.
He said, “I do not speak openly about many things, but I want to work for the people and perform my duties with honesty.”
He said that canal excavation is very important to increase agricultural production in the country.
In the past, former President Ziaur Rahman had advanced the country from famine conditions toward food self-sufficiency by excavating canals across the country.
At present, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has taken initiatives to implement that program again with renewed importance.
Mizanur Rahman Minu further said that cities such as Dhaka and Chittagong are expanding rapidly. As a result, the amount of cultivable land is decreasing while the demand for food is increasing. Therefore, it is essential to improve irrigation systems and ensure water flow through canal excavation in order to boost agricultural production.
He informed that about 1,200 meters (1.20 km) of the Bil Lata canal—from Belgapur to Julupura in Niamatpur Upazila—will be re-excavated.
The project will be implemented by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) at an estimated cost of around Tk 1.5 million.
Addressing the people present at the event, the Land Minister said the government wants to work as a servant of the people.
Meeting the expectations of the public is the government’s responsibility.
He also noted that party leaders and activists want to work while staying closely connected with ordinary people.
The discussion meeting was chaired by Mostafizur Rahman, MP. The main speaker was Abu Bakkar Siddique, administrator of the Naogaon District Council and president of BNP’s Naogaon district unit.
Special guests included Zahidul Islam, MP, Fazle Huda Babul, MP, and Ikramul Bari, MP.
Also present were Mohammad Saiful Islam, Deputy Commissioner of Naogaon, Mohammad Tarikul Islam, Superintendent of Police, along with other officials from the local administration.
