Army chief visits Savar, Cumilla cantonments

DHAKA, March 15, 2026 (BSS) – Chief of the Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman today paid a brief visit to Savar and Cumilla Cantonments at two subsequent ceremonies.

During the visit, the Army Chief first laid the foundation stone of Army Institute of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation adjacent to Savar Cantonment, said a release of the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate this evening.  

It said this 200-bed institution plans to provide modern robotic rehabilitation treatment to neurological and paralyzed people, children with special needs, people injured in operational duties and various accidents, along with conventional physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy.

Meanwhile, the Army Chief inaugurated the newly built permanent campus of the Cumilla Army Medical College near the Cumilla Cantonment and laid the foundation stone of the 500-bed Army Medical College Hospital there.

On January 11, 2015, the academic activities of the Army Medical College, Cumilla were officially started on 5 acres of land. Subsequently, the journey of its permanent campus of the college, built with its own funds on 7.07 acres of land near the Cumilla Cantonment, today began with the auspicious inauguration, the ISPR mentioned.

Currently, 250 students are studying in this college and since its establishment, a total of 283 students from 6 batches have successfully graduated as doctors and are working in the country and abroad.

Besides, the ISPR said there are plans to start the admission process of foreign students in the permanent campus of the college from the next academic year, which will further expand the scope of education of the institution to the international arena.

Quartermaster General of the Bangladesh Army, Director General of Medical Services, Engineer in Chief, Adjutant General, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 9 Infantry Division and Savar Area Commander, GOC of the 33 Infantry Division and Cumilla Area Commander, senior officers of the Army Headquarters and the concerned areas, individuals working and studying in the medical college and hospital and representatives of various media outlets were present on the occasion, the ISPR added.
