126 held in block raids during first two weeks of March in Dhaka 

DHAKA, March 15, 2026 (BSS) - The Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 126 people during block raid operations conducted in different areas of the capital during the first two weeks of March to maintain law and order.

During the drives carried out in crime-prone areas under Pallabi, Jatrabari, Paltan, Shah Ali, Motijheel, Shahbagh, Sabujbagh, Dakshinkhan, Shahjahanpur, Chawkbazar and Mirpur police stations, police also recovered 84 puria of cannabis, 47 yaba tablets, 702 grams of cannabis and various drug-taking equipment from the arrested individuals.

Later, the detainees were produced before the Special Metropolitan Magistrate Court, which sentenced them to various terms of imprisonment and imposed fines through summary trials.

The information was confirmed by Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of the Media and Public Relations Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

On March 2, the DB Mirpur Division conducted a block raid in the Millad Camp area under Pallabi Police Station and arrested 22 people. 

The court sentenced five of them to six months' imprisonment, fined 14 persons Tk 500 each and awarded seven days' imprisonment to three others.

On March 5, the DB Wari Division carried out a raid in the City Pori slum area of Dhalpur under Jatrabari Police Station and arrested 14 people. 

The court sentenced two of them to seven days' imprisonment, fined five persons Tk 500 each and acquitted seven others.

On March 8, the DB Motijheel Division arrested one person during a raid near Gate No. 3 of the National Football Stadium under Paltan Police Station. The court later sentenced the accused to 20 days' imprisonment.

On March 9, the DB Mirpur Division arrested 42 people during a raid in front of the Women's College beside Hazrat Shah Ali Mazar under Shah Ali Police Station.The court sentenced each of them to one month's imprisonment.

On the same day, the DB Motijheel Division arrested another person during a raid near Motijheel Ali Bhaban, adjacent to the passenger shed on the road leading from Dainik Bangla intersection to Bangabhaban. 

The court sentenced the accused to 20 days' imprisonment.

On March 10, the DB Ramna Division arrested eight people during a raid in the Suhrawardy Udyan area under Shahbagh Police Station. The court awarded them various terms of imprisonment and fines. 

In another drive the same day, the DB Motijheel Division arrested two people from the road east of the Basabo Buddhist Temple under Sabujbagh Police Station and sentenced them to 20 days' imprisonment each.

On March 11, the DB Uttara Division arrested five people during a raid in front of Dhaka Airport Government High School in the Hajicamp area under Dakshinkhan Police Station. The court sentenced each of them to one month's imprisonment.

On the same day, the DB Motijheel Division arrested one person near Khilgaon Government Primary School under Shahjahanpur Police Station and he was sentenced to 25 days' imprisonment.

Also on March 11, the DB Lalbagh Division arrested 12 people during a raid in the Bakshi Bazar area adjacent to BUET under Chawkbazar Police Station. 

The court sentenced four of them to six months' imprisonment, one person to 15 days' imprisonment and seven others to three months' imprisonment.

In another drive the same day, the DB Ramna Division arrested two people from Suhrawardy Udyan and the court sentenced them to seven days' imprisonment.

On March 12, the DB Tejgaon Division conducted a raid in the Karwan Bazar area and arrested 10 people. The court sentenced one of them to six months' imprisonment while the remaining nine were fined.

On the same day, the DB Motijheel Division arrested one person from the area in front of the National Stadium and the court sentenced him to 20 days' imprisonment.

In a separate drive on March 12, the DB Ramna Division arrested five people from Suhrawardy Udyan. The court sentenced four of them to 15 days' rigorous imprisonment and fined one person Tk 500.

DMP officials said such drives will continue to maintain normal law and order in the capital.
