DHAKA, March 15, 2026 (BSS) - Eid shopping has gathered significant momentum
in the capital as thousands of residents and visitors throng major shopping
malls and traditional markets to purchase clothes, shoes, and accessories
ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Major destinations, including Bashundhara City Shopping Complex, Jamuna
Future Park, and Dhaka New Market are witnessing heavy crowds of buyers
throughout the day and late into the night.
Traders report that sales have increased substantially as the festival
approaches, with clothing outlets, footwear stores, and cosmetics shops
experiencing brisk business.
A visit to several shopping centers revealed that popular brand shops selling
punjabis, sarees, three-piece suits, and children's dresses are particularly
busy.
Due to the prevailing hot weather, cotton outfits and three-piece dresses are
among the top-selling items this year.
Many shoppers, such as private executive Kayum Chowdhury, expressed a
preference for large malls and branded outlets because they offer better
quality and fixed prices, eliminating the need for bargaining.
Retailers at Jamuna Future Park noted that since the middle of Ramadan,
crowds have grown daily.
Families are increasingly treating Eid shopping as a family outing, often
purchasing clothes for all members in a single visit.
Young shoppers are showing a keen interest in trendy punjabis, shirts, and
casual wear.
The appeal of Dhaka's shopping hubs extends beyond city dwellers. People from
adjacent districts such as Narayanganj and Gazipur and even farther areas
like Cumilla, Feni and Mymensingh are traveling to the capital to buy world-
class brand dresses.
Shopping malls have been adorned with colourful decorative lighting, creating
a festive atmosphere that attracts fashion aficionados until midnight.
According to store managers at brands like SAILOR, the evening hours after
iftar are the busiest, with malls remaining crowded until late at night.
Sales executives from prominent brands such as Aarong, Ecstasy, Yellow, and
others are working tirelessly to manage the rush.
According to a sales executive of ILLIYEEN Multi-Brand Store, many shoppers
prefer malls because of the variety and comfortable environment.
"Customers like shopping here because they can find many brands under one
roof. We hope sales will peak in the last few days before Eid," he added.
A sales executive at YELLOW in Bashundhara City Shopping Complex said
families are coming together to shop for Eid. "Most customers are buying
clothes for the whole family in one visit. Young people are especially
interested in trendy punjabis, shirts and casual wear for Eid celebrations,"
he added.
Traders and shoppers have expressed satisfaction with the improved law and
order situation and the uninterrupted power supply during the Ramadan period.
Members of law enforcement are actively deployed in front of malls to ensure
public safety, with security being closely monitored through information and
service center booths.
