DHAKA, Mar 11, 2026 (BSS)- A travel bag containing gold ornaments that a rail passenger unconsciously left out in the train has been recovered with the assistance of the National Emergency Service 999.
The bag was recovered with the help of Railway Police and returned to its owner, official sources said here today, said Anwar Sattar, Media and Public Relations Officer of the National Emergency Service 999.
Police said, the passenger Maruf Hossain Munna had boarded Dewanganj Commuter Train from Joydebpur.
When he got off at Jamalpur station, he mistakenly left his travel bag on the overhead rack above the seat number 32 in coach “Gha”.
Later, he requested assistance from 999 to recover the bag. He also informed police that the bag contained a newly made pair of gold earrings, a pair of silver anklets, important documents and clothing.
999 call taker Constable Tushar Mamun received the call and immediately informed the Railway Police Control Room and the Dewanganj Railway Police Station, initiating steps to recover the bag.
The rescue effort was supervised and coordinated by 999 dispatcher Sub Inspector Harolal Roy.
After receiving the information, a team from Dewanganj Railway Police Station recovered the bag when the train reached at Dewanganj Station and took it to the police station.
Later, the passenger collected the bag from Dewanganj Railway Police Station.
