KHULNA, Mar 10, 2026 (BSS) - A giant python from the Sundarbans swallowed a goat after entering a locality here in the district today.

The incident took place in the morning on a char of the Bhola River adjacent to Rasulpur village under Sharankhola upazila.

According to Forest Department and local sources, a goat belonging to day labourer Sohrab Farazi of Rasulpur village went to graze on the river char near the Sundarbans in the morning as usual. When the goat did not return home for a long time, its owner went out to search for it.

At one stage, he spotted a large python lying inside a bush on the char. As the snake's belly appeared unusually swollen, locals assumed that it had swallowed the goat whole.

On information, members of the Community Patrolling Group (CPG) rushed to the spot and rescued the python with the help of local residents. Hundreds of curious people from nearby areas gathered there to see the snake.

Goat owner Sohrab Farazi said the python, which came from the Sundarbans, devoured his goat, causing him financial loss.

Confirming the incident, Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) of the Sharankhola Range Md Shariful Islam said forest guards from the Daserbharani Forest Patrol Outpost rescued the python from the locality after receiving the information.

The python, measuring around 15 feet in length and weighing approximately 35 kilograms, was later released back into the Sundarbans from the Daserbharani Forest Patrol Outpost in the afternoon, he added.
