DSCC takes measures to ensure smooth Eid travel, remove illegal counters near Sayedabad terminal

DHAKA, March 10, 2026 (BSS) - The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has taken special preparations to ensure safe, comfortable and smooth travel for homebound people ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.

An emergency coordination meeting was held today at the city’s Nagar Bhaban, chaired by DSCC Administrator Md. Abdus Salam.

The meeting adopted several important decisions including modernization of terminal management, eviction of illegal ticket counters and improvement of necessary infrastructure to reduce passenger suffering and control traffic congestion.

Representatives from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Dhaka Road Transport Bus Owners Association, Sayedabad Inter-District Bus Terminal Transport Owners Association and Sayedabad Inter-District Bus Terminal Workers Committee attended the meeting.

Officials said long-standing problems such as illegal ticket counters, roadside shops and unregulated parking in and around Sayedabad Inter-District Bus Terminal have been causing severe traffic congestion and passenger sufferings. Authorities decided to take immediate measures to address the situation.

According to the decisions taken at the meeting, all illegal ticket counters built along the roadside from the slope of the Sayedabad Bridge to TT Para will be removed after issuing notices within a specified timeframe. Eviction drives will also be conducted to remove illegal shops inside the terminal.

Under the new arrangement, legitimate bus companies will be allocated ticket counters inside the terminal based on a specific policy framework. The DSCC, bus owners’ association and the traffic division of the police will jointly coordinate this process.

To bring discipline to the terminal management, buses will no longer be allowed to use the terminal as a depot and must instead use the designated five bus bays. No bus will be permitted to stay in the terminal for more than 20 to 30 minutes for passenger boarding and disembarking.

For passenger convenience, initiatives have been taken to establish an information desk and a breastfeeding room at the terminal. Authorities also instructed officials to complete unfinished renovation work, repair toilets and take immediate measures to resolve water logging before the Eid travel rush.

To prevent complaints of overcharging during the Eid period, the transport owners’ association has been urged to strictly ensure that no fare beyond the government-fixed rates is collected.

The traffic division has also been assigned responsibility for seizing and removing abandoned buses that have long been lying inside the terminal, in order to reduce congestion on surrounding roads.

In his remarks, DSCC Administrator Md. Abdus Salam said ensuring smooth Eid travel and reducing traffic congestion in the long term will require coordinated efforts from the city corporation, police, bus owners and workers. He said the decisions taken at the meeting would be implemented at any cost to ensure passenger comfort.

Meanwhile, the 12th corporation meeting of the DSCC governing board was also held at Nagar Bhaban in the afternoon under the chairmanship of the new administrator. Board members congratulated him and expressed hope that he would play a strong and effective role in implementing the government’s “Green City, Clean City” vision.
