DHAKA, Mar 10, 2026 (BSS) - The deadline for filing appeals against the returning officer’s decision on the scrutiny of nomination papers for the general election in Sherpur-3 constituency and the by-election in the vacant Bogura-6 parliamentary seat ended today.
According to the schedule announced by the Election Commission (EC), voting in the two constituencies will be held on Thursday, April 9, from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm without any break, using ballot papers and transparent ballot boxes.
As per the EC schedule, the scrutiny of nomination papers by the returning officer was held on March 5. The period for filing appeals against the returning officer’s decisions runs from March 6 to March 10. The appeals will be disposed of on March 11. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is March 14, while election symbols will be allocated on March 15.
According to the Election Commission, a total of six candidates submitted nomination papers for the general election in Sherpur-3 constituency. Among them, Md Mahmudul Haque Rubel submitted nomination papers as a candidate of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), while Md Masudur Rahman submitted nomination papers on behalf of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
In addition, one candidate each from Islami Andolon Bangladesh and the Socialist Party of Bangladesh (Marxist), along with one independent candidate, has also submitted nomination papers.
Bogura-6 election: According to the EC, three candidates submitted nomination papers for the election in the vacant Bogura-6 parliamentary constituency. Among them, Md Rezaul Karim Badsha submitted nomination paper as a candidate of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), while Md Abidur Rahman submitted nomination paper on behalf of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
A candidate from Bangladesh Development Party has also submitted nomination paper for the
election.
