Fire at Mirpur’s LA Plaza extinguished; 24 rescued

DHAKA, March 9, 2026 (BSS) - A fire that broke out in a multi-storey building, LA Plaza, in Mirpur-2 of the capital was brought under control after nearly two hours of intense efforts by firefighters today. 
Anwarul Islam, media officer of the FSCD, confirmed that the fire was finally brought under control at around 3:20 pm. 

According to the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD), the blaze originated around 1:15pm in the 11-storey building located opposite the Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. 

Firefighters worked quickly to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading further.

A total of seven firefighting units took part in the operation. Initially, five units were deployed to tackle the blaze, while two additional units later joined the efforts to assist in controlling the fire.

During the rescue operation, firefighters successfully evacuated 24 people from the building, including 14 men and 10 women. 

Among them, one woman was taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for treatment, while the remaining rescued individuals were reported to be in stable condition.

Authorities said the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage could not be immediately determined. 
An investigation is expected to be conducted to determine reason behind the fire incident.
