DHAKA, Mar 9, 2026 (BSS) – Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan has expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of retired Professor of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of the university Professor Dr Sakhawat Ali Khan.

In a condolence message today, the DU VC said Dr Sakhawat Ali Khan made unique contributions to the development, expansion and modernization of journalism education and research in the country. 

Alongside education and research, his outstanding contributions to the development of the journalism profession will be remembered, he said.

Prof Niaz prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

Earlier, the namaz-e-janaza of the deceased was held at DU central mosque at 10:30am today. After the janaza, he would be laid to eternal rest at the family graveyard in Shibpur upazila of Narsingdi.

Prof Sakhawat breathed his last at a hospital in the capital late Sunday night (March 8). He was 85.

He left behind his wife, son, daughter and a host of relatives, students and admirers to mourn his death.
