DHAKA, March 8, 2026 (BSS) - A court in Dhaka has sentenced two men to five days of imprisonment each for threatening a police officer on duty during a footpath clearance operation in Jatrabari area.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Special Metropolitan Magistrate Court handed down the sentence to Md. Tuhin (24) and Md. Arif (30) after they were produced before the court following their arrest, according to a press release.
According to police, the incident occurred on Saturday (March 7) when Jatrabari Police Station and Traffic Police carried out a joint drive to free footpaths from illegal occupation at Mawa Incoming Road and Shaheed Faruk Sarani.
During the operation, the two accused allegedly made objectionable remarks and issued various threats to police personnel performing their duties.
Police immediately detained them from the spot and later produced them before the Special Metropolitan Magistrate Court.
After hearing the case, the court sentenced both individuals to five days of imprisonment.
Police officials said such drives will continue in the area to keep footpaths free from illegal vendors and ensure public order.
