DHAKA, March 8, 2026 (BSS) - The High Court (HC) today granted bail to former
chief justice (CJ) ABM Khairul Haque in four separate cases.
A High Court division bench of Justice Md Khairul Alam and Justice Md Sagir
Hossain passed the order, declaring absolute the rule issued earlier in this
connection.
Senior Advocates Munsurul Hoque Chowdhury, Sara Hossain, Motahar Hossain Saju
and Sayeed Ahmed Raza moved the bail plea before the court while Deputy
Attorney General Zahirul Islam Sumon stood for the state.
A team of Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested the former chief justice,
80, from the capital's Dhanmondi area on July 24, 2025. He was later shown
arrested in a case lodged over the killing of one Abdul Qaium Ahad during the
July-August Mass Uprising.
Supreme Court lawyer Muzahidul Islam earlier filed another case against him
for pronouncing malicious and illegal judgments and creating false and
fraudulent verdicts, driven by greed. The case was filed against Haque, also
the former chairman of the Law Commission, under sections 219 and 416 of the
Penal Code of 1860 on August 27, 2024. Two similar cases were filed against
him in Narayanganj.
The High Court today granted him bail in these four cases.
