KUSHTIA, Mar 05, 2026 (BSS) - A case has been filed with local police station naming four accused for the murder of Asma Sadia Runa, chairperson and assistant professor of the Social Welfare Department of the Islami University (IU) here.
The victim's husband, Md. Imtiaz Sultan, filed the case with the university police station this morning. The accused are: university employee Fazlur Rahman, former Assistant Registrar of the Social Welfare Department Biswajit Kumar Biswas, Assistant Professor Shyam Sundar Sarkar and Assistant Professor Md. Habibur Rahman.
Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Islami University Police Station, Md. Masud Rana, said that husband of Asma Sadia Runa filed a case naming four individuals as accused.
Meanwhile, after the post-mortem of the deceased teacher, her body was handed over to her family from the Kushtia General Hospital morgue around 10:00 am today. The colleagues and relatives of the deceased have demanded exemplary punishment to those involved in the killing.
It is learned that after the Janaza of the victim at Central Eidgah field here after Zohr prayer today, she will be buried at the Kushtia Municipal Graveyard.
Deceased Asma Sadia Runa was residing at the Kushtia Government College Mor area. She was the mother of three daughters and one son.
It may be noted that university employee Fazlur Rahman stabbed her while she was sitting in her own room at the Social Welfare Department in the Theology and Islamic Studies Faculty building.
Later, he also attempted to commit suicide by stabbing himself in his neck. He is currently undergoing treatment at Kushtia General Hospital.
