DHAKA, March 4, 2026 (BSS) - Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the sensational murder of a woman in the capital's Turag area.
The arrested have been identified as Noor Alam Bagh (47) and Md. Russell Madabbar alias Russell Islam Joni (25).
According to a police press release, the victim, Regina Momtaz (59), lived with her husband in a flat in Sector 15 under Turag Police Station.
The incident took place on Monday (March 2).
On that day, at around 8:05 pm, the victim's husband left home to offer Tarawih prayers. When he returned at approximately 9:15 pm and opened the door, he found his wife lying unconscious on the floor.
Her hands and feet were tied with cloth, and scotch tape had been wrapped around her nose and mouth. Household belongings were found scattered across the flat.
She was rushed to Dhaka Specialized Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.
Police said that a review of CCTV footage revealed that at approximately 8:18 pm, two unidentified masked men entered the residence.
They tied the victim's hands and feet, wrapped scotch tape around her nose and mouth, strangled her to death, and fled with a pair of gold bangles, a gold chain, and a gold nose ring.
Following the incident, a murder case was filed with Turag Police Station.
Based on CCTV footage analysis, information technology support, and intelligence inputs, police conducted a raid at around 6:30 pm on Tuesday (March 3) and arrested Noor Alam Bagh from Sector 15 under Turag Police Station.
Later, based on information provided by him, police recovered a pair of gold bangles, a gold chain, a brass nose ring, scotch tape, and broken glasses believed to have been used during the murder from an office in Sector 12 under Uttara West Police Station at around 7:05 pm.
On the same day, at approximately 7:45 pm, Md. Russell Madabbar alias Russell was arrested from the Uttara North Metro Station area.
Legal proceedings against the arrested individuals are currently underway.
