DHAKA, Jan 27, 2026 (BSS) - Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today formally inaugurated the e-Learning Programme in 12 schools across the three hill districts in Chattogram.
He launched the programme virtually from the state guest house Jamuna here this noon and exchanged views with teachers and students of the 12 schools- three primary and nine secondary schools, said the Chief Adviser's Press Wing.
The e-Learning Programme will be launched in phases in 149 selected primary and secondary schools in the three hill districts within the shortest possible time.
Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Adviser Supradip Chakma, SDG Principal Coordinator Lamiya Morshed, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb and Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry's Secretary Mohammed Mizanur Rahman were present on the occasion.
E-learning activities began today at Rani Dayamoyee High School, Kaptai Al-Amin Nuria Dakhil Madrasah, Farua Junior Secondary School and Islamabad Government Primary School in Rangamati, Kamalchari Pilot High School, Hajachhari Junior High School, Manikchari Girls' High School Pujgang Mukh Government Primary School in Khagrachhari, and Balaghata Ideal School, Haji Firoza Begum Wami Academy, Tindu Junior High School and Bogamukh Para Government Primary School in Bandarban.

Addressing the students of the schools on the occasion, Prof Yunus said , "The internet has reached the whole world, but it did not reach your areas. The government is responsible for this not happening for so long. We apologise".
"Today we started with only 12 schools, whereas it should have started in 3,500 schools. We have to reach that goal very quickly," he added.
"You live in such beautiful places-how many places in the world are this beautiful? Yet good teachers do not want to go there because they get cut off from communication," the Chief Adviser said, adding, the beauty of the internet is that "you will no longer have to depend on just one teacher".
"A teacher can teach you from anywhere in the world. You will be able to study with the teacher of your choice. In case of lack of teachers, the quality of your education will not decline," he said.
"Through the internet, you will be able to know what is happening across the world," Prof Yunus said.
Noting health as another important issue, he said, it is difficult to get good doctors in remote areas.
"If there is internet, you will be able to communicate with doctors wherever they are and receive advice and medicines," the Chief Adviser added.
He further said, "We are all citizens of this country. You will enjoy the same rights that other citizens enjoy. Allah has given you intelligence and ability just like everyone else".
"There is no reason for you to remain deprived. You will enjoy equal opportunities. Failing to provide this (opportunity) is the government's incompetence, and we must come out of this incompetence," Prof Yunus added.
Later, he virtually exchanged views with several teachers and students. The teachers and students expressed their gratitude and thanks to the Chief Adviser for launching the e-Learning Programme.
Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Adviser Supradip Chakma said, "Through today's initiative, the government has fulfilled its commitment. A new horizon is opening in education in the hill regions".
Noting that the government will gradually start e-learning activities in 149 schools, he said, "We have to reach many more schools. The government does not want to leave the people of the hill tracts lagging behind. The people of the hill tracts also do not want to lag behind".
"We want the Chittagong Hill Tracts to be more connected with the whole of Bangladesh and the entire world," Chakma said.
