DHAKA, Jan 5, 2026 (BSS) - Independent candidate Dr Tasnim Jara has appealed to the Election Commission (EC) to regain her candidacy after her nomination papers were rejected in the 13th National Parliament election in Dhaka-9 constituency.

She filed the appeal at booth number 7 of the Dhaka region of the Appeals Center at the Election Commission building in city’s Agargaon today.

Talking to reporters after submitting the appeal, Jara said, “In just one and a half days, about 5,000 people have spontaneously signed in support of me. They have given a lot of love. They have worked as volunteers themselves. Those who have signed want me to participate in the elections. I’m continuing our legal fight with respect for them.”

Her lawyer Advocate Arman Hossain said that they have filed this appeal as per Article 14 (5) of the Representation of the People Order (RPO) 1972 and Rule 5 of the Election Conduct Rules 2008.

He said, “Legally, we have a 100 percent chance of winning this appeal. We hope that through the appeal, Dr Tasnim Jara will be able to contest again in Dhaka-9 constituency as the people's candidate.”

Arman said, “We are hopeful that this problem will be resolved soon in the appeal hearing and we will be legally permitted to contest in this constituency.”
