CHATTOGRAM, Aug 17, 2026 (BSS) - Two special women-only bus services will begin operation in Chattogram tomorrow as part of the government's election pledge to ensure safe and comfortable public transport for women.

The buses will operate on the route from the Kalurghat Betar Kendra area to Free Port-Patenga.

The service will be inaugurated at 10am at Kalurghat Betar Kendra, with Chattogram-8 lawmaker Ershad Ullah attending as chief guest.

Chattogram Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md Sharif Uddin said Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) officials and the deputy commissioner will attend the inauguration.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam will inaugurate the overall women-only bus programme at 10am tomorrow at the BRTC Dhaka Truck Depot in Tejgaon.

According to BRTC sources, the pink-coloured buses will have women drivers and conductors. The initiative aims not only to provide safer and more comfortable transportation for women but also to create employment opportunities for women in the transport sector.
