ACC files case against ex-railway official for taking Tk 6.5 million as bribe

DHAKA, Jan 5, 2026 (BSS) - The ACC today filed a case against a former railway official for taking Tk 6.5 million as bribe from eight job seekers by giving them falsely assurance of providing jobs as ‘Khalasi’ in the Bangladesh Railway.

Assistant Director of the Public Relations Department of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Md. Tanjir Ahmed disclosed the information to the journalists at his office here. 

The case was filed at the Rajshahi Metropolitan Integrated District Office under sections 420/162 of the Penal Code of 1860 and section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.

The accused, Syed Abjurul Haque, who served as an Assistant Administrative Officer at the Office of the Chief Mechanical Engineer (East) office in Chattogram and is currently on post-retirement leave (PRL).

According to the case, following a recruitment circular issued in 2015, the accused assured the applicants that he would secure them jobs as ‘Khalasi’ in Bangladesh Railway by exerting illegal influence. During this process, he allegedly received a total of Tk 6.5 million as bribes through SA Paribahan (Pvt.) Ltd, Rajshahi and Chattogram branches as well as through cash transactions.

The alleged transactions took place at various times between 2017 and 2022.

The ACC officials said that during the investigation, evidence supporting the financial transactions and communications was found through verification of SA Paribahan receipts, ownership of mobile phone numbers, information from BTRC and telecom operators and analysis of call detail records (CDR). 

In addition, notarized affidavits and declarations from 2019, 2021 and 2022 bear the signature of the accused in which he admitted to receiving the money.
