Former state minister Dipankar remanded in uprising killing case

DHAKA, Jan 05, 2026 (BSS) – A court here today placed former state minister for Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs Dipankar Talukder on a five-day remand in a case lodged over the killing of Jhut (garment-factory scrap) trader Md Monir during the July Mass Uprising last year.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana passed the order as police produced Dipankar before the court and pleaded to place him on a 10-day remand in the case.

According to the case statement, one Monir joined a mass uprising rally in the city's Chankharpul area on August 5, 2024. He was shot and died on the spot around noon that day. 

Monir's widow, Rojina Akter, filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station on March 14, 2025, against 351 named and around 500 unnamed accused.

Dipankar Talukder was arrested from the capital’s Sobhanbagh area on February 10, 2025.
