Weather improves notably bringing easiness to northern people

RANGPUR, Dec 31, 2025 (BSS) - There is a notable improvement in the weather today as the maximum temperatures increased by eight to 10 degrees Celsius and the sun was visible since this morning, bringing easiness to the people of the northern region.
 
After being hit by a bone-chilling cold wave for a week, people from all walks of life across the region expressed joy at being able to leave their homes and go to their preferred places amid sunny weather starting this morning.
 
Although the maximum temperatures have increased by an average of 10 degrees Celsius in most parts of the northern region, the minimum temperatures have remained mostly unchanged or slightly decreased in the last 24 hours ending at 3:30 pm today.
 
However, the overall weather began to ease as the sun rose in a clear sky free from dense fog and cloud cover since the morning, and the gap between the minimum and maximum temperatures increased sharply, bringing great relief to the people.
 
Earlier, the weather deteriorated causing a chilling cold following reduction of the gap between maximum and minimum temperatures to minimum as minimum temperatures ranged between 10 and 13 degrees Celsius in the last seven days. 
 
Local residents said vehicular movements on roads and highways and activities in the farm fields, business centers, markets, hats and bazaars, bus stands and terminals and rail stations gained momentum since the morning.
  
Officer-in-Charge of Rangpur Meteorological office meteorologist Md Mostafizar Rahman old BSS at 3:45 pm today that the minimum temperatures marked little fluctuations and ranged between 12 and 13 degrees Celsius in the region today. 
 
“The maximum temperatures marked sharp rises by eight to 10 degrees Celsius and ranged between 21.5 and 23 degrees Celsius at 3 pm today, increasing the gap between the two temperatures by 10 degrees Celsius today,” he said. 
 
So, the intensity of the cold has significantly decreased. Daytime temperatures will continue to increase and night temperatures may fluctuate slightly in the coming days, added Mostafizur Rahman.
 
The minimum temperatures recorded at 9 am today were 12.5 degrees Celsius at Rangpur city, 12.1 degrees at Dinajpur, 12.5 degrees at Saidpur, 12.4 degrees at Tentulia, 13 degrees at Dimla, 12.2 degrees at Rajarhat, 12.4 degrees at Thakurgaon, 13 degrees at Lalmonirhat and 13 degrees Celsius at Gaibandha points.
 
The maximum temperatures recorded at 3 pm today were 23 degrees Celsius at Rangpur city, 22.2 degrees at Dinajpur, 23 degrees at Saidpur, 22.7 degrees at Tentulia, 22.5 degrees at Dimla, 22.2 degrees at Rajarhat, 21.8 degrees at Thakurgaon, 21.5 degrees at Lalmonirhat and 22.2 degrees Celsius at Gaibandha points.
     
Following improvement of the weather situation, common people and farm- and day- laborers started normal activities everywhere, including remote char areas today.
 
The district administrations, different voluntary, sociocultural and political organisations, trade bodies, and affluent people are continuing distribution of warm clothes among cold-hit people.
  
Talking to BSS, Additional Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) for Rangpur region Agriculturist Md Shirajul Islam said growing winter crops and Boro rice seedlings would not be affected if the weather continues improving onwards. 
  
“Due to behavioral changes in weather patterns as climate change’s domino effect, the temperature witnesses up and down in the morning and the afternoon. And that is why the growth of crop plants is not being affected,” he added. 
 
Reports coming in from rural and riverine char areas today said that the suffering of people in Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Gaibandha, Rangpur, Nilphamari, Dinajpur, Thakurgaon and Panchagarh districts in the region has reduced today.
