DHAKA, May 20, 2026 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and the Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) have called for the immediate payment of journalists’ salaries, allowances, and Eid bonuses.
In a joint statement issued today, BFUJ President Obaidur Rahman Shahin, Secretary General Kader Gani Chowdhury, DUJ President Md Shahidul Islam, and Acting General Secretary Md Didarul Alam Didar made the demand.
The leaders urged media organizations to pay journalists’ salaries and Eid bonuses ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha and to clear outstanding dues, including bonuses, at the newspaper Janakantha in order to ensure a permanent solution to the ongoing situation there.
They also called for effective measures to resolve the irregularities and discrimination that have persisted during the 17 years of fascist rule at BSS.
The journalist leaders said that Eid holidays are approaching, yet many organizations have still not paid journalists their salaries and allowances.
They alleged that some institutions continue to pay journalists only nominal salaries in violation of regulations and are now delaying payment of salaries and Eid bonuses on various excuses.
They added that, despite this, these institutions continue to enjoy all government benefits after declaring implementation of the Wage Board award.
The leaders demanded the immediate payment of journalists’ salaries and Eid bonuses.
