He formally submitted the nomination paper to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dinajpur and Returning Officer Md. Rafiqul Islam at about 2:30 pm.

After submitting the nomination, Jahangir Alam said that BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir earlier selected him as the alternative candidate for the Dinajpur-3 constituency through a letter signed on December 27.

He said that the people of the country are aware that Begum Khaleda Zia is currently undergoing treatment at the Evercare Hospital in Dhaka in a critical condition.

Therefore, following party instructions, he submitted his nomination paper today as her alternative candidate.
