DHAKA, Dec 27, 2025 (BSS)- The 48th annual general meeting (AGM) of the
Bangla Academy was held today with various programmes.
The event began at 8.30 am with registration at the academy premises.
Bangla Academy fellows, life-time members and invited guests attended the
event.
The event began with the hoisting of the national flag and singing national
anthem and recitation of religious scripts followed.
Besides, this year, eight individuals were selected for Bangla Academy awards
for their contributions to literature and drama, science and nature, essay,
mathematics, theatre etc formally announced at today's meeting.
Professor Mansur Musa received the 'Literary Mohammad Barkatullah Essay
Literature Award' for language-based research, carrying a cash prize of Taka
100,000 while Khosru Chowdhury won the 'Meher Kabir Science Literature Award'
for contributions to nature and science and received a cash prize of Taka
100,000.
Sanawul Haque Khan received the 'Mazharul Islam Poetry Award' for
contributions to Bangla poetry, while Hafiz Rashid Khan won the 'Sadat Ali
Akhand Literature Award' for research on the life and literature of ethnic
communities. Each of these awards carries Taka 100,000.
For contributions as an actor, theatre director and organiser, Tariq Anam
Khan was honoured with the 'Professor Momtazuddin Ahmed Theatre Personality
Award', which carries Taka 100,000.
The 'Abu Rushd Literature Award' for outstanding contribution to translation
literature went to Shibrata Barman, with a cash prize of Taka 100,000.
Safiq Islam received the 'Halima-Sharafuddin Science Award' for presenting
mathematics in an accessible and enjoyable way through his book Goniter Rajye
Anondobhromon. The award carries a cash prize of Taka 50,000.
The 'Rabeya Khatun Fiction Award-2025' was awarded to two recipients. Subrata
Barua received the award for overall contribution to fiction, while Anisur
Rahman, under the age of 49, was honoured for his 2024 short story collection
'Sisyphus Srom'. The total award amount is Taka 200,000, with Taka 100,000
awarded to each recipient.
The Bangla Academy also conferred honorary fellowships to seven distinguished
personalities for their special contributions in their respective fields.
The recipients are Philip Gaine (journalism), Professor Mahbub Ullah
(economics), painter Samar Majumdar (fine arts), Professor Parveen Hasan
(history), Marina Tabassum (arts), and Professor Bijon Kumar Shil (science).
The fellows were honoured with medals, certificates and floral crests.
