Bangla Academy announces eight awards for 2025

DHAKA, Dec 18, 2025 (BSS) - Bangla Academy has announced the recipients of eight prestigious awards for 2025, recognising outstanding contributions to literature, research, science, theatre and translation.

The awards will be formally presented at the 48th Annual General Meeting of the Bangla Academy, scheduled to be held on December 27, according to a press release.

Professor Mansur Musa has been selected for the Mohammad Barkatullah Essay Literature Award 2025 for his evaluation-based contributions to language-focused research. The award carries a cash prize of Tk 1 lakh.

The Meher Kabir Science Literature Award 2025 has been awarded to Khosru Chowdhury in recognition of his overall contribution to the study and practice of nature and science. The prize money is Tk 1 lakh.

Poet Sanaul Haque Khan has received the Mazharul Islam Poetry Award 2025 for his overall contribution to Bengali poetry. The award includes a cash prize of Tk 1 lakh.

Hafiz Rashid Khan has been honoured with the Sadat Ali Akhand Literature Award 2025 for his research on the life and literature of various ethnic communities. The award carries Tk 1 lakh in prize money.

Renowned actor, theatre director and organiser Tariq Anam Khan has been awarded the Professor Momtazuddin Ahmed Theatre Award 2025 for his lifelong contribution to acting, theatre direction and organisational activities. The prize money is Tk 1 lakh.

The Abu Rushd Literature Award 2025 has been conferred on Shibbrata Barman for his outstanding contribution to translation literature. The award includes a cash prize of Tk 1 lakh.

Under the Halima-Sharafuddin Science Award 2025, Safiq Islam has been honoured for his book "Goniter Rajye Anondobhromon" for presenting mathematics in an easy and enjoyable manner. The award carries a cash prize of Tk 50,000.

The Rabeya Khatun Fiction Award 2025 has been given in two categories. Writer Subrata Barua has been honoured for his overall contribution to fiction and will receive Tk 2 lakh. In the under-49 category, Anisur Rahman has been awarded for his short story collection "Sisyphus Srom", published in 2024, and will receive Tk 1 lakh.
