DHAKA, Dec 23, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today granted a five-day remand for Kabir, a close associate of prime accused Faisal Karim Masud alias Daud (37), in the Sharif Osman Hadi murder case.
Sharif Osman Hadi, an independent candidate in the 13th National Election from Dhaka-8 constituency and convener of the Inqilab Moncho, succumbed to bullet injury at a health facility in Singapore on December 18.
After completion of a seven-day remand, police produced Kabir before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court. The investigating officer (IO) of the case, DB Inspector Faisal Ahmed, sought another 7-day remand for the sake of investigation.
After the hearing, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Sefatullah granted his five-day remand again. Earlier, Metropolitan Magistrate Hasibuzzaman granted a seven-day remand for Kabir in the same case on December 16.
On December 12, at about 2:20 pm, miscreants shot at Sharif Osman Hadi with firearms on Box Culvert Road under Paltan Police Station and fled the scene.
In connection with the incident, on December 14, Inqilab Moncho Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber filed a case at Paltan Police Station on charge of attempt to murder. The accused were charged under sections 120(B)/326/307/109/34 of the Penal Code.
Later, on December 20, following a petition submitted by the IO, Metropolitan Magistrate Siddiq Azad ordered to add section 302 (murder) of the Penal Code to the case.
According to the case statement, on December 12 at about 2:20 pm, Hadi was heading towards Suhrawardy Udyan after finishing campaign following Jummah prayers at Motijheel Mosque. The accused Faisal Karim Masud alias Daud and his unidentified accomplice, who were following him on a motorbike, shot him with firearms from a point blank range.
Injured Hadi was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later admitted to Evercare Hospital.
As his condition deteriorated, he was airlifted to Singapore for advanced treatment and admitted to Singapore General Hospital. He later died while undergoing treatment at 9:45 pm on December 18.
