DHAKA, Nov 19, 2025 (BSS) - Police arrested four individuals in connection with the murder of 16-year-old Shanto in the capital's Turag area.

DMP Uttara Division Deputy Commissioner Md Muhidul Islam confirmed the arrests at a press briefing at the DMP Media Center this afternoon.

The detainees were identified as Samidul Haque Mona, 42, Md Robiul Islam Rana, 20, Hazrat Ali, 45, and Md Noyon Mia, 30. 

Police said they were picked up within 30 hours of the discovery of Shanto's body on an abandoned plot near the 7 No. Bridge in Sector 17 under Turag Thana on November 17.

A knife used in the killing, a specially made nylon rope and the stolen auto-rickshaw were recovered.

According to DC Muhidul, the mastermind Samidul was arrested first from Kafrul. Based on his information, Robiul, Hazrat and Noyon were later detained.

Police said the group had lured Shanto to the bridge area to snatch his auto-rickshaw. Rana allegedly strangled him with a nylon rope while Samidul stabbed him. The stolen vehicle was later sold for Tk 50,000 in Netrokona with the help of Hazrat and Noyon.

A murder case has been filed with Turag Thana and further legal action is underway, the DC added.
