FARIDPUR, April 3, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Water Resources Forhad Hossain Azad today affirmed the government's firm commitment to providing an uninterrupted supply of diesel and electricity to farmers to ensure the smooth cultivation of jute, paddy, and maize during the current season.
"The government is highly alert to the needs of the agricultural sector and is actively working to ensure that farmers receive necessary energy supplies to maintain productivity. The government remains alert to ensure that our farmers get uninterrupted diesel and electricity," he said.
The State Minister made these remarks while responding to queries from journalists at the Faridpur Water Development Board Rest House.
Addressing the complexities of the current global landscape, Forhad Hossain Azad noted that the ongoing international situation and wars have created energy crises in countries across the globe.
He pointed out that while oil prices have significantly risen on the international market, the Bangladesh government has not increased oil prices so far in an effort to protect the domestic economy and support the people.
He added that the government is making every effort to maintain a stable supply chain despite these external pressures.
The State Minister, however, urged everyone to remain vigilant, noting that the current hot weather provides an opportunity for dishonest businessmen to resort to various tactics to create artificial crises.
To prevent such malpractice, he issued a clear directive to the local administration to conduct strict and regular monitoring of fuel supplies to ensure market stability and protect the interests of the farming community.
Regarding local infrastructure development, the State Minister said the government would undertake solid work in the coming days to prevent river erosion in Faridpur, ensuring that the assets and properties of the people are not destroyed by the river.
He further reiterated the government's zero-tolerance policy toward corruption in all spheres of state activity to ensure transparency and accountability.
The event was attended by, among others, Shahidul Islam Babul, Member of Parliament (MP) for Faridpur-4, Nayab Yusuf, Member of Parliament (MP) for Faridpur-3, Shahjahan Siraj, Chief Engineer of the Water Development Board, Sultan Mahmud, Superintending Engineer, Md.
